This is huge!!! I teach accelerated classes, and even there, it is so difficult to scaffold effectively because the divide is so wide it's almost unfair to put them in cooperative learning groups

I'm a huge supporter of accelerated programs, but we've convinced kids that they have to maintain this crazy course load to be viable college candidates. Students think that just being in the class should count for something, but they recognize they're out classed. That's definitely stress-inducing

Maybe students are less resilient today in some respects, but they suffer from always feeling like every mis-step is permanent, and maybe this is the root of the stress. They can never escape from the day's petty dramas, their grades are constantly being monitored, they're bound to feel burned out.
