I don’t know all the economic and demographic implications of my hearing an @billsimmons.bsky.social ad read on an @theresthistory.bsky.social podcast…

I’ll wait (and hope) for @conorsen.bsky.social to explain it to me.

Inspired by @minakimes.bsky.social and @billsimmons.bsky.social… two proposals for field goals:

Restore the old, old rule that kickers must play on the down immediately preceding the attempt.

No offensive timeouts or substitutions before the kick. Let the clock be part of the challenge.

Y’all remember when lime Skittle was replaced ***for eight years*** with a trash, overflavored green apple?

No matter how big a mistake you’ve made, and no matter how public, you can repent. The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll reach the day when no one remembers your former foolishness.

I propose a new index for @conorsen.bsky.social

At full employment, service at local Chicks-fil-A was unprecedentedly bad. Bright-eyed, high sociability canidates all had better opportunities.

2 months now, the service has been *great,* like pre-pandemic levels.

I’m worried.

I routinely tell my brother (a Gator) that Spencer Hall is UF’s all-time greatest contribution to American culture. And that verdict gets ratified every single day on this app.
This is great but you gotta find a way to explain it to everyone and fortunately Bum Phillips already did

I’m not an economics writer, but feels like this one needed @mattyglesias.bsky.social or @conorsen.bsky.social to chime in.

New Fox chyron is excellent.

Team names: huge.
Score: huge.
Logos: none. Colors say enough.
Needless chrome: none.
Timeouts remaining: prominent but not distracting.
Down and yards to go indicator: conveys which team has the ball.
Typography: classic, legible, bold, timeless.

Outstanding design.

So far, the main effects of Apple Intelligence seem to be:

- Siri is **way** slower to “launch” on my 15 Pro Max
- Siri answers are worse (cf. @gruber.foo)
- Siri sometimes dials-a-friend to ChatGPT, which is genuinely helpful.

The glow is nice, too.

$cash app sends me an email, letting me know my account’s been inactive for 2 years… which is how I realized:

A) I have a Cash app account
B) it’s the only platform I got in early enough to use my (pretty uncommon) surname as my handle.

Agreed. *And*

For me, the hardness of writing is not the effort but the sacrifice, the isolation and time denied to neighbors & loved ones.

Coding, writing, correspondence, creating — the work of our age is increasingly social in its ends, but isolating in its means. (1/2)

A Sunday Prayer:

O Holy Spirit, open my eyes this day to perceive how you are at work all around me—healing, rescuing, restoring, reconciling—so that I might participate in your good purposes for this world that you so love. I pray this in the name of the One who makes dead bones live. Amen.

Fun article… makes me think of a way to fix the NBA cup & all-star games.

Make em “vintage rules.” E.g. eliminate the corner 3 in regular play, but keep it for Cup finals. Make oddball tournaments a showcase for comparing modern players with the olden days.

College sports have so many layers of terrible, malicious leadership that I wanna be clear I am not positing them as a better system in any way, but it always throws me for a loop to be reminded that pro fans have to deal with owners who cannot be run out of town. Buddy we can run anyone outta town.
one of the many joys of being a sports fan is rubbernecking at stories like this that you get at a regular drip that establish team owners as some of the most incompetent people ever born. i always think back to marge schott owning an mlb team for many years and not knowing about time zones
