this strain of feminist pessimism has always baffled me. they seem to believe that misogyny is some kind of internal inevitability for which harms must be mitigated, rather than a societal construct that can be, eventually, rooted out

Anyway being a parent doesn't automatically make you your daughter's bestie, it doesn't automatically make you your daughter's confidante, it doesn't automatically make you an expert of her internal strife. It makes you her carer. That's a responsibility. Not a privilege.
