I’ve got a theory that every Elder Scrolls game has to do one thing so badly that it never gets repeated. In Oblivion it was “leveling up is bad” and in Skyrim it’s “what if the narrative climax of fighting a dragon happened randomly instead of as the climax of a narrative?”

What was the original question? I feel like this guy is actually losing his argument with the vending machine. Stalin's shift to Socialism In One Country was because they didn't think the conditions for revolution existed yet in other countries. So they had to wait, but the goal remained the same.

If you don’t have any socialism you can try substituting communism, but you’ll want to use one third as much, and it’s gonna make it saltier.

It's actually just poundless Georg, who we all know by now shouldn't be counted in the average.

Oh, it’s more than just an okay approach - sometimes it’s the best approach. A good way to see the elegance of a “just a bunch of ifs” style is to keep adding rules to fizzbuzz:

If the number is divisible by 7, output an empty string.

Every third time you output fizzbuzz, say buzzfizz instead

Etc

“I’ll just replace all these clumsy if statements with a single elegant system that handles everyone’s special use case.”

What amuses me most is how bad the armchair programmers are at even identifying bad code. They’ll harp on a long chain of if/else statements that handle special cases while every experienced dev says “yup, that’s how you do it.”

I think the applause is because that’s an actual person who’s just pretending to be a robot doll.
