DBT is split up into 4 parts:
Mindfulness (this is the foundation of DBT),
Emotional regulation,
Interpersonal effectiveness and
Distress tolerance.

It does take a lot of work and practice but in my experience, it's really worth the hard work.

I'm Autistic, ADHD and BPD and it's been so helpful for me, although I do use a few adaptions with some of the skills to make them more effective for me.

I Although it was originally designed for people with BPD, it's basically a set of life skills, as well as it being a therapy.
I would encourage everyone (who wants to) to learn the skills as they really can be very helpful tools.

Something I really like about DBT is that there is a heavy focus on acceptance and change, working to change what we can and accept what we can't.

One of the main goals of DBT is to help us to build a life worth living.

... who weren't getting effective support, as therapies like CBT aren't as effective for those of us with BPD.

It is a behavioural therapy based on CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Zen Buddhism.

I have just added comments under the two longer posts, but I'm not sure how they come out. Thank you 💜

It's annoying that it takes time, I remember being so impatient and just wanting to know all the skills and be able to use them but in my experience, all the hard work and effort is worth it in the long run.

💜 You got this💜

The second round is where things really start to make sense as you have more knowledge of the skills and is also a time to brush up on any skills you may not have been able to give your time to in the first round.

The best way to learn DBT is by following doing at least 2 rounds of lessons. I know not all practitioners and groups can offer this but it is something you can do with the help of my (and other) resources.

This will change one day (soon I hope) but it's not something I have complete control over and being angry about it won't make me feel any better.

I like this example as even tho I can't change the fact that I'm ill atm and I can't change this reality now, it is something I can work on changing (helping myself recover instead of ignoring it) but thorough each step I still need to work to Radically Accept I'm not better yet.
April 14, 2025 at 8:47 AM
Atm I'm ill and I don't want to be ill (again!) But if I don't Radically Accept that I am then I can't take the steps needed to help me get better.
April 14, 2025 at 8:45 AM
There are some things in life that we can't change even if we want to and using Radical Acceptance on these things is hard but can still be better than fighting something we either can't change at all or can't change in that moment.

Thank you, I definitely feel less alone here now. 😁💜
