If the police arrest me for this, it's a direct attack on the expression of opinion: ie on free speech. But the Terrorism Act is so madly oppressive and loosely framed that I have no idea which side of it I'm on. And I suspect it's the same for them.

America plans to withhold weapons from Ukraine that are crucial for its defence. Well what a surprise. When do we finally learn that Trump is a wrong un and stop trying to flatter and play him. Europe has to go it alone.

This is a brilliant and crucial article about the demonisation of empathy by @joolia.bsky.social (Julia Carrie Wong).
It's a reminder that there is no idea so perverse that some people won't turn it into a doctrine. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Great thread from the wonderful George Monbiot.
1. You feel powerless? Don’t know what you can do to resist the rise of fascism?
Here is an answer: Good Things.
Fascism inflicts pain and harm as a matter of doctrine.
Kindness, care and conviviality defend us from it.
The more we build community, the less it can take root.

Trumpcession. Love that word. Repeat as much as possible so it seeps into the language of the US nation. Nothing Trump will hate more!

You are the Lord HawHaw of our times, a friend of foreign despots, not of our country.

Don't remember much about Hillbilly Elegy (J.D. Vance's 2016 book) but I knew there was a parable about the importance of standing up to bullies in there. I'm sure he meant it at the time.

1. This is my farewell post. I am not deleting this account, as I don’t want to lose the archive, and I don’t want my name taken by imposters. But, for as long as Musk owns the platform, I’ll no longer use it.

Six months prison for an “act preventing a road being used to any extent”. So marches on the road are now illegal. Wow.
With scarcely a voice being raised against it, we are sliding into a police state, in which an entirely peaceful protester, trying to prevent a societal catastrophe, can get six months in jail for marching slowly down the road.

1. I’m very grateful for the response to my appearance on Question Time, but also puzzled. I felt that in all cases I was simply stating the bleeding obvious.
Is this now so rare in public life that it becomes an event when someone does it?
The grim truth seems to be: yes.🧵
