Zohran Mamdani campaigned a lot and appears not to hate the voters whose support he's seeking. Here's what other Democrats can learn from his unorthodox strategy.

They got Claudine Gay out of the Harvard presidency over a footnote.
Ngl, seeing “you’re holding the nazi tatted racist white man to impossible standards” as a Black woman, aka the demographic ACTUALLY held to impossible standards, pisses me off deeply. The bar is so low for them and they still can’t clear it, but we’re “ideological purists” for pointing that out.

Every day I draw closer to actually planning what was initially a joke of an idea — a private conference where people who feel absolutely insane in our regular life for not believing robots will save us from our ogliarchs can just get together and latent to be normal for 36 hours. Over drinks.

"They won't pay taxes" is eugenics speak

But it is also hypocrisy of the highest order coming from the party and class of people who regularly refuse to pay their share

virginia tech's ETD repository has been crashing so often from being scraped by so many bots that they've had to close off external, non-university access. In case you needed more evidence of how LLM training hurts open access.

As distressed as I am by what 47's actions mean in real time and the immediate future, the idea of what rebuilding institutions is going to look like *whenever* the US gets to the other side of this, with so much institutional knowledge being wiped out, is even more distressing.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

I was just talking about this @amaniras.bsky.social last week. By calling her a prophet implies that her work just appears by the powers that be, instead of her writing & research being a craft and skill that she shaped and molded with her intellect and creativity. It devalues her important writing.
Reminded that Butler was not a prophet, rather she was someone who paid attention. She constantly read newspapers & academic research articles on cults, climate change, racism & sexism. She saw the patterns & signs & tried to warn us.
Clip of Octavia E. Butler on @democracynow.org discussing Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents from "The Landline", ed. Tiffany Rose & @ashleysimpo.bsky.social

"In hindsight, her warnings about climate change, authoritarianism, and survival feel less like fiction and more like prophecy."
