We are looking forward to HSGAC’s hearing and hope that they thoroughly question Bell and another nominee, John Walk, on their abilities to be independent and apolitical—qualities that are absolutely core to being an inspector general.

Thomas Bell, nominated to be the IG at HHS, wrote in his statement that he looks forward to supporting the president’s agenda.

The role of an IG isn’t to pursue an agenda, it’s to identify and investigate waste, fraud and abuse.

Anthony D’Esposito is the nominee to be the Dept of Labor’s IG. He’s a former member of Congress, and he didn’t explicitly rule out another run.

This raises serious ethical issues, especially since IGs MUST be apolitical.
