I love the idea of all the goons superheroes fight actually being normal people brainwashed and supplied by one dude. Did they ever follow up on that? It feels like one of those ideas that has a ton of potential.

This is it. The issue with the Dress scene. God I hate it. I hate every bit of it. It’s gross and it’s violating. It’s dispicible. Its horrible to Big Barda. It’s forever tainted Plastic Man as a character. It’s a PAGE FILLER JOKE more than anything. Fuck this.

These two panels alone would’ve been worth the price of the comic

Have the bonus panels, including an absolutely slutty Woozy (I say with affection)

Plastic Man Special (1999)

Art by Richard Pace & Ty Templeton (framing story), Rick Burchett (main)

Templeton packs so much into this book. Not just this hilarious story (a HEAVY pastiche on just about every lame art & story cliche you’d have seen in the 90’s), but the whole book, I love it a lot!

Plastic Man Special (1999)

I’ll just say I really don’t like this story. There’s some funny jokes, but I hate the idea that Woozy is some highly brain-damaged formerly top-level special agent that Plas is forced into a conservatorship for against his will. It’s just distasteful.

Elastic Lad is just an identity Jimmy Olsen has sparingly, with powers like Elongated Man. You rarely see him pop up, especially nowadays
November 14, 2025 at 3:59 PM
While Plastic Man, Elongated Man, and Elastic Lad all stretch, there’s some major differences. Plas came first, and also has shapeshifting as part of his powers, while also being a bit more comedy and crime focused. Ralph has more stretching and contortionist powers, and solves mysteries

Some lovely book to start my day, thanks to the great folks at @oldtowncafecomics.bsky.social!

Plastic Man Special (1999)

Art by Richard Pace & Ty Templeton

One of my favorite parts of this comic is that it tosses is fun little pages and gags, including a factoid comic, a make-your-own-Plas-toy advertisement, and a hilarious interview with an insane director played by Denny O’Neil

Mm, I’m really hankering for a sweet treat, maybe I should have some

Pennies no longer being made is ruining the day of this ONE Gotham Citizen! 👇

Plastic Man Special (1999)

Art by Aaron Lopresti

Unfortunately, this artist is another comicsgater.

This book is an anthology, the first we’ve seen since the 50’s! And I love it a lot, Ty Templeton perfectly translates Plas’ old personality into this book, making it a perfect Golden Age follow up

I replayed Batman Arkham Origins recently, for the first time in about four years, and had a lot of fun with it! I’d say that my biggest issue, performance aside, is just how screwy the Dark Knight challenges system is. Could’ve used a few more tweaks so you wouldn’t accidentally lock yourself out

I should mention, the artist here is a scummy right-wing comicsgate loser.

Heck yeah he would!

The visuals in the flashback in issue 5 kinda terrify me, particularly these expressions from Rex while he’s high on Miraclo

Hourman (1999) 5, 6, 7

Art by Rags Morales

I don’t read Hourman, but these issues are kinda crazy. The League gets turned into robots! Wild.

The closest I’d say you get is when he helps out Kyle who’s trapped as the Martian Manhunter, but I say it feels a lot more akin to something any character could’ve told Kyle, and not just Plas specifically, which would’ve been nice.

I feel like if Foreign Bodies had taken a more serious approach with Plas, and was written when more of his Golden Age stories were well known, you could’ve done great things with him helping Arthur and the others dealing with the transition to others bodies.
November 10, 2025 at 7:37 PM
Plastic Man is a shapeshifter, and not just in terms of elastic powers or turning into inanimate objects. Way back when, he used to turn into other people, and often they were women. It happened a lot back in the Golden Age, but became a lost trait later on.
November 10, 2025 at 7:37 PM
In the scene, Plastic Man IS watching, but it’s only to further all the “what a horndog” jokes, and it just leads to another “shut up” jokes

I honestly think that if this had been written in a later time, Plastic Man could’ve been of great help here in assisting Leaguers in dealing with their forms
November 10, 2025 at 7:37 PM
What I mean in particular is the aspect of the body swaps that lead into gender swapping, ie Aquaman going into Wonder Woman’s body*. In the comic, you mainly get a quick scene of Huntress teaching Arthur about his “center of gravity changing”, which feels more like a quick gag than anything

Because then, it just means that NO ONE wants to listen to what they say, and that they shouldn’t. The video game Hi-Fi Rush does this a lot with main hero, Chai, who’s portrayed as an idiot that is constantly being insulted and called as such. And it’s just not fun! My main gripe with the game
