I knew my American accent had thinned out when Germans stopped automatically speaking English to me when I spoke German to them. Even once got a "where are you from? I can't place your accent"

Bus lanes on Hennepin downtown when

Or at least enforcement of the "no stopping" zones!

You don't have to take it on faith. You can directly observe it by doing your own survey of driver speeds and behavior on any arterial or highway that has a junction with a freeway

Government road crews require freeway drivers to slow BELOW the speed limit when they are out working, because they are pedestrians on the freeway. But I don't see many drivers observing construction zone speed limits.

This discussion is not limited to controlled-access freeways, and that's the entire point I was making: that drivers attitude towards speed limits on freeways translates directly to their attitude towards speed limits on other roads, including highways that run on the surface and do have crosswalks

But I have seen drivers going 45+ on the state highway I cross to get groceries and to go to work that's signed for 30

Driver's don't seem to change their attitude towards speed limits just because they exited I-94

You're giving someone a heart attack alright, but it's because they are in the middle of a crosswalk, you failed to yield or even brake as you sped on by at 30+ in a 25, at night, and all because you treat the surface roads as if they are highways, too

I don't want drunk drivers driving on roads with pedestrian-safety oriented infrastructure either, and passive impaired driving detection systems are not a substitute for interlocks as a consequence of a DWI conviction

It's definitely superior, it's just less likely to happen when cities and counties also plan their own transit routes independent of each other and independent of the Met Council (which also develops plans for transit routes)

balkanization of local government isn't conducive to standardization

Wait, Seattle is not the only city that replaced a route 6 with an E Line?

the birthright clause was not just written to wipe dred scott off of the books, it was written to repudiate the *idea* behind dred scott, you might say the larger *ideological project* of dred scott. and the whole of section 1 of the 14th amendment is a constitutional statement of political equality

But demand for trips isn't so much the issue. It's the supply of vehicles on the road. Rideshare vehicles compound the issue further because they're not as often "offline" (i.e. parked). Whereas your personal car no longer contributes to congestion when reach your destination, rideshare vehicles do

I think it's evident from Waymo's choice to expand here, and the fact that the number of rideshare drivers increases year over year, that demand for rideshare vehicles IS increasing overall. I don't think most passengers care that much whether it's autonomous or not, just what's the cheapest option
