RSVP to one of the greatest GOATs
We’re crushed to hear the news that the great Udo Kier has passed at the age of 81. As iconic as he was prolific, Kier’s contributions to the genre span nearly 300 screen credits, from BLOOD FOR DRACULA to BACURAU and beyond. Our condolences go out to his friends, family and legions of fans.

Last four: once you see South London in the 1980s, you'll never stop wanting to strangle Margaret Thatcher to death with your bare hands. Two shorts and an all-timer feature from Leo McCarey.

THE MASTERMIND: Josh O'Connor out here single-handedly perfecting the pathetic man whose life is in shambles. The logline of Reichardt does Melville is warranted, yet maintaining the former's cozy humanity over the latter's icy detachment. One of the year's very best, no contest.

Last four logged: middling sci-fi freakout. One of Hitch's most light-hearted. Video game aesthetics cripple two of the most charismatic performers of our time. Garland and Mendoza weaponize cinema as art therapy.

Been a minute, but here's another four from April: Tim Story's F4 cannot be reclaimed. Daniel-san does Japan and narrowly edges out the first thanks to the nostalgia factor. How can you not be romantic about Ivan Reitman's swan song? Landon goes De Palma

LURKER (2025): Imagine somebody doing this shit to Conner4Real. A+ uncomfortable cinema, bleak and sneakily funny. Perfect ending tbh. Pair this with either POPSTAR or NIGHTCRAWLER and it plays the same.

Millennial and Gen z dudes out here closing the loop begun by their fathers and grandfathers by becoming absolute degenerate gamblers, it's amazing

Get a load of this four! Upsetting, paranoia fueled Friedkin freakout. Lumet at his schmaltziest. First Blood, made for TV canuxploitation style. Everything Shirley MacLaine wears belongs in a fucking museum.

Last four logged: Iconic (but not my favorite) Schrader with an all-timer Blondie track and Moroder score. Pryor works through some capital-S STUFF. A WORKING MAN could learn a thing or two from THE BEEKEEPER. Chaos Reigns.

A new four: Scorsese talking about the works of Powell and Pressburger is magical. Bowie in your internment camp is enough to drive anybody at least a little crazy. Ultra-goofy, sort of lifeless DTV-ass action. Repugnant, watchable trash from Kathryn Bigelow and Eric Red.
