A nice pair of volunteers from the #lpc came to ask if we had ordered a lawn sign. We had not.

16kWh of excess #solar went into my #ev today. That's a quarter tank. I can't remember the last time my gas car refilled its tank on its own, for free.

Meanwhile, the 'horrible' consumer #carbontax is gone and I can't tell if gas prices even twitched... I'll miss those rebates...

As far as I can tell, the US has decided to opt out of the world economy. It'll suck a lot for a bit, but instead of the US being the 'centre' we'll have tons of increased bilateral trade and way more flexibility.

US can make their own cars. CAN, GER, and MEX will make'm for everyone else.

The future is amazing.

My home energy management system is dynamically adjusting the charging rate for my #EV to match the excess power my #solar panels are producing.

I'm filling my 'gas tank' for free.

You know, if Trump was a good business leader, he would have sold the US government to the highest bidder instead of taking the first lowball offer. $250M seems awfully cheap.

Yep, totally fine, just outbreaks of preventable diseases. But hey it's the fault of cancer patients and countless others for being immunocompromised or something.
Also from the DM’s…

Looks like there was a whooping cough issue in Cochrane as well…

Today on CBC Frontburner @karinagould.bsky.social (who I was unfamiliar with previously) said something PROFOUND.

Karina said 'we need to turn the social safety net into a trampoline - so that it not only catches you, but lifts you back up.'

That's a vision for the Liberals I get behind.

I'm just going to (re)post this whenever I need to remind myself. Maybe it'll help you too?

1. Focus on things in your control & take ONE action there.

2. Limit your inputs. You can't help if you're paralyzed.

My grandmother survived the pogroms, the concentration camps, and the indifference of people who didn't stand up for others.

She told me not long ago that she hoped she didn't live much longer because the world is beginning to feel again like it did back then.

She wasn't wrong. #lovenothate

"Heinz pissy that Trudeau reminds Canadians that they previously laid off entire Leamington employee base and left Canadian farmers in the lurch"

Heinz screwed over their Canadian employees. They came slinking back six years later - that doesn't buy my good will.

What's now clear to me is that Smith's talk of 'a strong Alberta within a united Canada' is BS.

Smith just needed to give the APPEARANCE of standing with the rest of Canada and debated response in private.

Instead she has amateurishly fallen for divide and conquer.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has spent weeks trying to flatter and cajole Donald Trump into exempting Alberta from his tariffs. At some point she's going to have to decide whether she wants to fight for Canada — or keep fighting against it. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/01/22/o...
Danielle Smith still wants us to surrender
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has charted her own course during the negotiations with Donald Trump and his tariff threat against Canada. So far, it's leading the entire country towards disaster.

#Alberta is busy making similar decisions motivated by ideology rather than sound strategy.

Imagine two companies. They are both well established leaders in their industry, but surrounded by scrappy startups.
The US just revoked an executive order aimed at making EV sales 50% by 2030. “The US will not sabotage our own industries while China pollutes with impunity,” Trump said.

But China is already stomping the US in EV sales. This decision will widen the gap.

"EVs basically don't work in cold" - lol. A weekend trip to Rogers Pass at -16C was our first test of the EV. Drove to Golden on well under a charge, hit 188kW charging while we sat in warm car and lost 2% battery over a cold night. Nope totally doesn't work.
