I think my inaugural post should be something special. So here is my main guitar these days, a custom multiscale Russel Crosby Festival Elite with some pretty special, personalized, inlay work. The butterfly is Heliconius charithonia, the zebra longwing, a favourite from my time in central TX.
Hope my siesta alarm didn't wake EVERYBODY!!!

Had a new visitor to the yard today, travelling with a pair of robins. From the short-ish mostly black bill I suspect this is an immature Bicknell's thrush (but it could be a Grey-cheeked thrush). Thoughts?

Had a dinner guest last night: this handsome somewhat lopsided antlers-in-velvet white-tailed buck. He's a regular visitor to our yard. Last night we literally had dinner together as we ate on the back porch and watched him eat his own dinner. He politely posed for photos...

Just got our notice of another Netflix Canada price increase (yes, again). Been a member since 2011 but this most recent shakedown is $3 too far for way too little.

Bye Bye Netflix Bye Bye.

Life, and Death, in the Backyard. At some point this morning, only visible after yesterday's fresh snow, it looks like a Sharp-shinned Hawk (hawk photo from last year), killed and ate a small songbird, from the feathers it was likely a Chickadee. All that's left is the evidence...

Some photos of our "invasion" of pine warblers which appeared on Tuesday and returned to the suet feeder, in numbers, yesterday. From my photos I think there are 2 males, 1 female and 2 immatures (1 male, 1 female) in this little flock. So nice to see them after 18 years!

Only the bird nerds will get my excitement on this but we had a male pine warbler at the suet feeders this morning! On the coldest of mornings. First one we've seen in NS (they were common in central TX) so it's been ~18 years between sightings...!

This recording is from 'the distant past' (aka 2009). A medley of Breton (not Cape) tunes arranged by Kate Dunlay (RIP). Fancy's Flight, at this time, was Kate (violin), Jennifer Publicover (flute), Cheryl Reid O'Hagen (harp, keys) et moi (acoustic guitar). Enjoy!
