I was talking with a friend about Asian history this evening. By some chance, I remembered Tank Man from Tiananmen Square events. Later, I stumbled across this story—an image so impactful that I remembered seeing it at age 7 was virtually unknown in 21st century Beijing. www.bbc.com/news/av/worl...

Noam and I have sometimes been on opposite sides of an issue, such as with the origins of language. But I am absolutely in line with his perspectives on human rights, human dignity, cultural coherence, and the implications of selfishness and greed.

I know what they’re doing, trying to overwhelm conscientious objection to their frankly morally repugnant and disgusting action. I know, and still I am constantly battling a wave of rage and sadness unlike anything I have ever felt. How DARE they do this to our beautiful experiment?

Being kind to others, receiving acts of kindness, and even witnessing the acts as a bystander all have the same positive results—serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine are released. Mr. Rosewater was right.

I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important:

Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

Lately, I’ve found life a bit tough to process. I realize it’s an intentional strategy of the part of this administration. I am trying to center myself, find a community with which to exchange info, and stay sane.

Also, they just fired the National Archivist, who does lots of important things.
