Happy World Antibiotic Awareness Week!

I’m penicillin this year.
The OG antibiotic!

Feeling considerably less effective than I once was (mostly due to Flu!)
It’s World AMR Awareness Week, and this year I had the honor to re-imagine and doodle the antibiotics in the antibiotic personality quiz 😇🖍️
Thank u @brxad.bsky.social for this amazing and fun opportunity!

C’mon, take the quiz, it’s a #WAAW tradition 😉💊

Let’s hope we learn from the marketing disaster that was plazomicin and we actually get this to bedsides
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers have just identified a powerful new antibiotic that is 100x STRONGER than existing drugs against deadly superbugs like MRSA and VRE. Hiding in a well-known soil bacterium, pre-methylenomycin C lactone KILLS drug-resistant bacteria WITHOUT triggering resistance.

Friends in the USA / Canada

What is your national guidance for the laboratory processing of BAL fluid?!

In the UK we advise a semi quantitative culture to enumerate bacteria…..we have been told your guidance is culture of the centrifuged deposit.

All guidance appreciated…..

Who will do these tests?
Massive numbers of specialised biomedical scientists being made redundant.

Risk.
That’s the risk to the healthcare of all.

How do you balance public health risk with individual rights? Here’s how we tried to do it in a complex XDR-TB case, great collaborative effort!
