Thinking about Stoppard.
In college I played Guildenstern in R&G ARE DEAD, one of the longest roles I ever memorized in my life. The director, Philip Anglim (THE ELEPHANT MAN on Broadway) encouraged me, but it was Stoppard’s text that sang. My first brush with existentialism, which is now my creed.

Judging by the smell on my patio tonight, I am surrounded by potheads.

If the foreign Disney parks can get a movie-accurate-proportioned robot Olaf, capable of independent movement and speech, then they must at once begin work on a flying robot Figment for Epcot.
Now honey, THAT would sell tickets.

I’m not a gambler, but I am forced to bet whether the work potluck will be worth not packing my own lunch today. Spin the wheel, and hope it doesn’t land on dry turkey and potato chips.

Almighty Nothing,

Thank you for this bounty of whatever our economic overlords have seen fit to place upon our table or center console or whatever today. We are grateful that each mouthful has brought shareholder value to someone, and look forward to shitting it into the void.

Eat arbys, amen.

I noticed that, since the lawsuit filed against Disney after a Raglan Road server incorrectly described a dish, resulting in the death of a customer, the menu now carries a boldface warning: WE ARE NOT A GLUTEN-FREE FACILITY.

When, O when, did corporations eliminate the word “problem?”
There is no real advantage to calling a problem a “challenge.”
Problems can be challenging, but they’re still problems.
Corporate “positivity” doublespeak only blurs the precision of language, making words less meaningful.

One of the engines of my unhappiness is: I cannot enjoy a job, if I do not respect the actors doing it. Theme parks are filled with mediocre actors, and this poisons the job for me, even when the show delights audiences.
If you demand perfection, you will never be content.
I am never content.

Ken Burns’s excellent documentary on the American Revolution has seduced me into decorating way too early for the holidays. I am now officially part of the problem.

A man I knew
Once went to Ireland,
Where the beer is so dark
That it’s black.
And while he was there
Met a girl with red hair,
And I don’t think
That he’s coming back.

Tesla shareholders approved Elon Musk's $1 trillion pay package.

Meanwhile, millions of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, can't afford to feed their families, and struggle with cuts to the safety net made to finance tax cuts for the super-rich.

American capitalism is off the rails.

Since Sir Terry Pratchett isn’t writing anymore (unless Death gives him a pass back, just for laughs), I highly recommend Joe Abercrombie’s THE DEVILS, which combines humor and eccentric world-building in a way Sir Terry fans will enjoy. My best read since JONATHAN STRANGE AND MR NORRELL.
