Another photobook, this time gathering together the B&W film photographs from the bits of my cycling holiday when I wasn't on the bike! At 24 pages and about three and a half metres long, it's an easier print job than the 7m+ Marginal. It'll be on sale at next year's #yorkopenstudios

A brilliant www.yoco.uk housing group meeting today and many thanks to www.yorkinrecovery.org.uk for a lovely meeting venue, conveniently located. Very different now to when it was the empty shell of Lendal substation back in 2007, when York Bike Rescue project took on its transformation!

Downside: There is no plan and no courage. No attempt to sort the tax system. No strategy for the economy, like the one @johnspringford.bsky.social suggests here getting-out-of-the-hole.uk. Even good policies, like mansion tax, simply fiddle for pennies instead of properly reforming property tax.

Yesterday evening we visited Hamilton, Canada, with www.yoco.uk plus @colville-andersen.com plus some Hamilton residents (thanks to extensive family networks!). *Really* good discussion, reflecting on York - and I've blogged it at www.yoco.uk/blog/the-lif...

"Britain has failed to base its economic strategy on what it’s good at - tradeable services, science and tech, universities, niches in advanced manufacturing.
And since Brexit, it has been actively undermining its economic model, which is founded on openness to trade, ideas and people."
New essay out today by me and @acjsissons.bsky.social - ‘Getting Britain out of the hole: a plan for the economy’. You can read the whole thing here getting-out-of-the-hole.uk

Say what you like about a wet weekend but by heck it's an opportunity to get stuff done - it's been solid printing / cutting / folding here, meaning I now have a (very limited) stock of Marginal, my photobook. Better work out how to sell it or there'll be a lot left for next year's #yorkopenstudios

It's the system, stupid - there isn't the capacity to enable the new neighbourhoods we need, but easier to blame the newts and promise to "rip up red tape" (whichever political colour you are, apparently). At last some serious questions from within -
