HORBEC are found in most prokaryotes, and are particularly diverse in Archaea. Phylogenetic analyses indicate a complex evolutionary history. However, we show that respiratory complex I (Nuo/Fpo) was likely present in the LUCA, challenging current hypotheses on the ancestral energetic metabolism.

If you look carefully at our 2017 Plos Genet, 2022 Mol Biol Evol, 2022 and 2025 mLife papers (never cited by « Asgard people » because they don’t fit with the current paradigm), you will understand that this is not the case. Sorry, but Archaea are our sisters, not our mother.
