Remind me, again, which Council Committee has oversight responsibility for DOES?
Ah, yes. Of course.
The D.C. OIG says DOES Director Unique Morris–Hughes violated spending rules by approving tens of thousands for go-go bands, DJs, speakers, and acrobats for staff events. Read the full story—missing hotel vouchers, a Real Housewives cameo, and inconsistent statements—here:
DOES Director Violated Several Spending Regulations for Staff Events With Go-Go Bands, DJs, and Acrobats, Inspector General Finds
Unique Morris-Hughes approved $69,000 in questionable expenses while certificates for Las Vegas hotel accommodations remain unaccounted for, the OIG found.

We stand united against all 13 anti–DC Home Rule bills in Congress.

DC is home to more than 700,000 residents who pay taxes, run businesses, and serve in the military. Like all Americans, we deserve the right to set our own local laws.

Congress should reject this unprecedented federal overreach.

“DHCD is a mess.” The agency forfeited roughly $35M in federal affordable housing assistance.

Part of that money went to a “credit swap” used to bail out a well-connected developer. Full story:
How DHCD Forfeited $35 Million in Federal Assistance for Affordable Housing and Bailed Out a Well-Connected Developer
DHCD Director Colleen Green failed to disclose the loss of funding when asked during a D.C. Council hearing earlier this year.

Framing this proposal as responsive to the current political moment and an emergency when it's been kicking around for much longer is telling. Turns out, one of the justifications is wanting to have private convos about stadiums/arenas. Alas, it's unanimous -and emergency leg- so it's happening.
