@petticoatshrink.bsky.social
Social worker, trauma therapist, mom, musician, nerdy Jew. Consummate pinko cuz I’m too commie for the libs and too lib for the commies. Married to @joelhs.bsky.social. Gotta remember to post about medieval food history and fun stuff to preserve sanity.
Heh. This thread is already devolving into the real version, unsurprisingly. 🤦‍♀️

Okay but don’t forget

they know that they can look all kinds of ways. It’s only honky white leftists who seem to be under the impression that everyone from anywhere in the Middle East looks like…this, I guess.

Shit like this makes me hulk the fuck out.

I have no high-minded contribution to The Discourse atm, but I can’t be the only one who has noticed this eerie resemblance, right?

Don’t feel great about the fact that the villain from this book is now the HHS Secretary (IYKYK).

This is the kind of stuff she’s reposting. This is fine? Just a suboptimal discursive choice?

Like maybe some of the people who turned out to this event my family and I attended last night. A whole lot of people, many of them elderly, came out with their homemade signs on a 95 degree day to demand food aid to Gaza in front of the Israeli Consulate.

Look, I am falling into bad old internet habits and I think I am at a point where I need to say to myself “Look friend, it’s actually fine if strangers on the internet are wrong about you because they came in to a conversations via people doing this tweet.”

What does this even mean? Self-identified liberal Zionists often align with those to their left (like me) on short and medium term goals. You can work with that even if you disagree with them. If you’re unwilling to, it’s not about stopping a genocide, it’s about posturing for your online buddies.

Yeah, why can’t you be more like us* Jews, who famously never complain about anything, especially not governments!

*or more likely Christian Zionists because I truly don’t know how these people could more efficiently communicate that they’ve never actually spoken to a Jew in their lives.

Sometimes you still see someone post something like this and I always expect them to move on to talking about the new Evanescence single or something because they clearly just stepped out of a time machine from 2003. Like, buddy, wait’ll you hear that London isn’t Europe anymore and why that is…
February 14, 2025 at 4:22 PM
How about this guy. Is he wrecking anything or just the people talking back to him?

I dunno man. I spent like 2 minutes reading the exchange and I a fine with saying this and worse to this little shit here.

I don’t remember not knowing that dozens of my relatives died in Auschwitz and that my beloved grandmother was one of the few left. But this dude who did a high school book report on a Holocaust memoir thinks I really need to understand that the camps were very, very bad. The Jews are tired, folks.

I’m starting to get concerned about some of these “being a piece of shit is akshually a disability as long as you can find some detail in the person’s life that it’s possible to medicalize” takes.

Don't you dare turn your eyes away from history, even the awful, scary parts. If you don't watch it with your own eyes, you rely on others to tell you what you saw. We must all bear witness to what's coming.

So I actually found a way to read this damn thing and it’s…not great but also more compassionate than I expected and mostly just talks about undeniable social trends in really judgy, value-laden language. And gestures at some potentially interesting things without exploring them much. Like this.

This week’s soup is was a stew—standard red wine beef stew, but with the additions of homemade cranberry sauce and dried porcinis, which kicked it up a notch. Not winning any beauty contests but it’s given us some good fall meals. 🍽️

It’s *finally* soup season around here and I’m going to try to make at least one pot every week. This week I turned a stewing hen from the farmer’s market into a chicken soup with wild rice, carrots, parsnips, and loads of lemon and dill. 🍽️
