On my way home from an inspiring week spent with maths teachers and educators in South Africa. Thanks to AMESA Congress 2025 for inviting me to be one of your plenary speakers.

Highly topical for me. On my way home from my first ever visit to a free and demicratic South Africa. As an anti-apartheid activist in the eighties, I might have been one of those branded a terrorist.
Peter Hain says anti-apartheid activists & suffragettes would have been terrorists under logic used to ban Palestine Action

‘treating Palestine Action as equivalent to Islamic State is intellectually bankrupt, politically unprincipled & morally wrong’ 1/2

While millions of people are already struggling to afford the basics, the extreme wealth of the super-rich is soaring.
And now the government is cutting both international aid and vital support for people in the UK.

📢 It's time to tax the super-rich!

Yes! We couldn't agree more. Maths is everywhere 🤩 #MoreThanJustNumbers
- I wonder why most people only mentioned numbers, because I feel like math is so much more than just numbers. There’s shapes, lines, and really anything you can think of that connects to math. Math is a part of quite literally anything.

What do you all think? #MathsToday #MTBoS #ITeachMath

The UK government plans to cut aid and social security, that helps fight inequality and poverty. But there is a fairer way.

Join us and write to your MP urging them to pressure Kier Starmer to reverse these devastating cuts now.
