Nup to that. Lots of countries acquired female leaders, many with cultures far, far more conservative than the US. (Like Mexico, a little late for this 2024 map.)

But then, when political campaigns go bad, it's so much easier to blame the electorate instead.

Even at the "as seen on the 7:30 Report"-levels of shitty for-profit RTO I worked at a decade back, they had the good graces to sack a department head for hitting on students. The same should have happened to Larry Summers.

What makes Harvard different?
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

It's amazing (and a little bloody scary) how Canada, and in particular, my former home province of BC, does State Capture as well as Australia and all its states on the opposite side of the Pacific. LNG giveaways, stamping on Indigenous groups, the works.

"The Courier-Mail recently invited its 750,000 Facebook followers to vote on whether “disabled kids belong in mainstream schools” using emoji reactions." That's an absolute "banality of evil" sentence, and everybody involved should be shamed and shunned.

Think of this as an argument for a maximum wage for public servants. Beyond a certain amount, would the government get better outcomes from the extra cash per privileged worker? I doesn't look like it.

I believe there are people that would ace a Chotiner interview: explain things clearly the first time, be able to handle follow up questions, and never be evasive. The reader would think "They know what they're doing".

This is the opposite.

There's so many people like that in politics, alas.

Meanwhile, the organisation I work for is discussing how to go from a five-day working week to a four-day working week with no drop in productivity OR pay.

It's like at its heart, "grind culture" is malevolent, mediocre management that can't imagine "employee burnout" is a thing. Fuck that.
The grind culture that birthed many Big Tech companies from Google to Amazon is back.

As the AI race heats up, startups are promoting hardcore cultures like “996,” or working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week.
Why these companies insist on a 72-hour work week
Start-ups are promoting hardcore cultures such as “996,” meaning working from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. six days a week, as they race to compete in AI.

I never saw Guillermo del Toro's "Pinocchio" until last night, and it's great. Imagine a flick where they work in poop jokes roasting Benito Mussolini into the original story.

Thinking of all the "No Kings" rallies happening in the States. This goes out to them.
