Work: Decarbonisation and circularity
Life: Making a small patch of North Wales wilder. Often found outdoors.
Good news. A better society is possible.

All this talk of energy costs…

Nearly a quarter of bills goes to private profit.

The grid upgrade will cost 1.7× more on a private than public model.

The privatisation tax no one talks about.

I agree with 2014 Shabana, not the 2025 version who wants to arrest her past self (if she supported the same cause in more than one occasion).

Cool. I’ve seen it though. Screenshot below 😜

Palantir are complicit in a genocide through the deployment of their AI systems that has targeted and killed innocent civilians.

Labour are selling the soul of the UK to Peter “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible” Thiel.

I don’t really watch @BBCNews but had it on last night.

No wonder the asylum debate is so toxic when they emphasise the loaded “taxpayers’expense” phrase.

I posted this on X and asked the awful Grok if X suppressed posts on Gaza.

It said “No, X's algorithm does not systematically suppress posts about Gaza events, per transparency reports and Musk's free speech stance.”

I challenged it, it changed it’s mind. Musk’s “Free speech stance”. Lol.

The new “Sustainable” Farming Scheme in Wales.

🌳 Requires planting 0.1ha of woodland. Or about 0.2% of average farm size.

⬇️ Previous proposal was 7 football pitches tree cover*, this is 1/7 of a football pitch.

The power of the farming lobby.

Blackcurrants in hedges has to be THE easiest food to grow. Collecting 1kg of fruit a day at the moment. Hedges can be so much more than a line of hawthorn in plastic tubes.

Angry at people receiving housing benefit?

Maybe get angry at the cost of housing.

Get angry at the annual £14bn transfer of wealth to private landlords.

Get angry at the inequality baked into the system.

Concentrating an entire population in a camp under military control… all while the world watches on, enabling this crime against humanity.

“Israel’s war in Gaza is chipping away at so much of what we had agreed upon as acceptable, from the rules governing our freedom of speech to the very laws of armed conflict”

“If they are so afraid of..a sign…we are stronger than they want us to believe.”

The way people battle against nature in the Welsh uplands, rather than work with it, can be quite miserable at times. At least the dead sheep are providing food, but to the same animals so many despise.

Imagine going on a wildlife tour at a @yorkswildlife.bsky.social @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social reserve and being told to stomp on as many of a native caterpillar species as possible.

No wonder so many people are disconnected and fearful of the natural world.

The good news for me is oaks are coming back here. I did grow some saplings from collected acorns from a fairly local source, but the self seeded ones brought in (by jays I guess) seem to get started quicker.
May 24, 2025 at 4:35 PM
I’ve done some translocation of saplings from an area of regeneration to a patch some distance from it. Not a purists approach but I’m impatient. It is also a crisis so think we need act with urgency.

EAT-Lancet: Meat and dairy sector employed a PR firm to discredit the research (@desmog.bsky.social)

“Red Flag briefed journalists, think tanks, and social media influencers”

If you employ the same tactics of the fossil fuel industry, you are on the wrong side of history.
