I just mentioned that the atmosphere is becoming quite active in the next few days, and as Alex mentions in the 10 day trend this small low pressure development needs watching for the weekend..could bring some wet/very windy conditions to S parts of the UK ..

The atmosphere is moving into quite an active state at the moment
A strong jetstream across the N Atlantic allowing an area of low pressure to rapidly deepen to the NW of the UK next 24hrs
Central pressure dropping from 985 to 958hpa in 24hrs...a fall of 27hpa

The atmosphere is moving into quite an active state at the moment
A strong jetstream across the N Atlantic allowing an area of low pressure to rapidly deepen to the NW of the UK next 24hrs

10hpa 60N zonal mean zonal winds have weakened from W'ly 70mph to nearer 12mph over the past 10 days or so, and this is leading to warming over the N Pole through vertical compression..the warming currently more notable at the 30hpa level than at 10hpa
