Having peaked recently with W winds 10hpa 60N at ~70mph, the spv stratospheric polar vortex is now weakening as EC analysis confirms...but where's this now heading?...one to 👀 with interest for sure..

Changes afoot..
We hold onto mild weather during the week ahead 🌡📈
From around mid month there have been signs of things turning colder, and that theme is gaining wider model support..in line with the metoffice seasonal forecast and weather drivers currently in play 🌡📉

The first widely fine day for a while inevitably means a cooler evening under clearer skies
Cloud, rain and a milder flow from the Atlantic reappearing from the west though

In the harsh snowy winter of 1947..just a few yrs after enduring the horrors of WW2
The RAF had to airdrop food to stop people starving
Jet engines were installed on the front of trains to clear snow
Farmers used pneumatic drills to harvest vegetables
How times have changed!

It was well forecast for ~10 days, and the spv stratospheric polar vortex has now doubled in strength this past week
EC analysis showing W winds 10hpa 60N increasing from around 35mph to around 70mph
Models have also been forecasting a weakening going forward now..one to watch

High confidence for the mild/very mild weather to continue for now
(✅️)..
A cooler trend longer term, perhaps (❓️),
...but much too uncertain to provide much context in that regard, and plenty of spread in model output from later next week..

As per metoffice long range & seasonal forecasts, many weather drivers in favour of some higher pressure/more blocked weather patterns developing in the weeks ahead:
1. Weak La Nina
2. E QBO
3. -IOD
