That was the coldest since 12th January 2025 when Altnaharra reached -18.9C..and this the coldest UK temperature since 2010..
Last night was the coldest night of the winter so far, making it a very cold and frosty start for most of us this morning ❄️

Here are the latest overnight lows 👇

Temperatures plummeting this evening

Now
-10C in Wales
-9C Scotland
-7C England
Less cold N Ireland
January 5, 2026 at 6:37 PM
There'll be several attempts at incursions of less cold air from the west/Atlantic in the days ahead

This could bring some disruptive snow/rain/wind in the process ... but with uncertainty in the details..

As expected the wind has veered slightly again today with a N rather than NW flow

As a result eastern counties of the UK have been exposed to wintry showers again

Lacking in snow over the Alps currently

Winter Olympics start in Cortina in around a months time

Hints from EC and GFS of some much needed snow in the pipeline next few weeks..
January 4, 2026 at 7:05 PM
A slight wind veer back into the N tomorrow rather than today's NWly means N Scotland, N Ireland, W Wales, the west of SW England AND once again eastern counties of England are back in the firing line for sleet and snow showers on Monday..
January 4, 2026 at 5:33 PM
Yes it's cold right now

..But, it's to our northeast where the really bitter weather currently resides..

Snow cover really starting to make its presence felt now in Scotland with temperatures, as so often the case, really plummeting as the sun goes down
-11C over the mountains ⛰️

As mentioned yesterday a backing of the wind from N to NW sparing N Sea coasts from wintry showers today, whilst the N and W of the UK in the firing line ❄️...

The Wolf supermoon (4th month in a row now to see a supermoon) and Jupiter situated near to it, so clear to see through the cold unpolluted Arctic night sky air tonight
January 3, 2026 at 11:22 PM
Subtle changes in wind direction today to tomorrow mean a change in emphasis for areas catching most sleet/snow showers

A backing of winds from the N-NW tomorrow mean N Sea counties less exposed to them, & the opposite true further west

All the while N Scotland sees a pasting
