100% this. It’s the critical and fatal flaw in the Obama-Biden variant of liberalism: a complacent confidence that things will simply work out through the exercise of normal politics, and norms are self-executing and will freely protect themselves through some kind of cosmic necessity.
At what point can we declare a fundamental strain of Obama-Bidenism is a lackadaisical (to the point of virtual collaborationist) attitude to clearly existing threats against the American democratic system, refusal to engage law enforcement to the point of almost blessing right-wing illegal conduct.
