This is the main reason Chainsaw Man and Make the Exorcist Fall in Love are a cut above other shounens. Even though CSM is falling off rn, part 1 is still beyond what most shounens are and it's because Fujimoto pulls so heavily from cinema. Meanwhile MTEFIL pulls from lit references from college

Personally, I think it's racist to make a japanese character black, and it is also racist to steal mexican deities to make them japanese. A japanese person would be discriminated against in mexico, and vice versa.
