Ana gets it. This whole thread is worth reading.
I've taught a couple of interviewing classes and, sure, "don't ask yes/no questions, ask 'why/how'" advice is standard. Most people will respond. But it's not a magic charm against a psychopath. "How did you justify?" is just as likely to get "Well, I didn't" as a "Did you?"
Exactly. Show him his post first. Put it up on a screen. Then ask him virtually any question about any word, phrase, or sentence in it.

Everyone who follows the news already knows where this is headed.

Orwell. A police state. An authoritarian regime that disappears people—including citizens. Think Pinochet as a starting point.

The problem is that those who don't follow the news *don't* know where this is headed. We must tell them.

Not The Onion, but CBS News

Not an indie-club stand-up routine before ICE arrives to stomp on the club owner in front of his mom, but actual testimony from the snowflakiest fascist goons ever to hit the mean. shop- and tourist-lined streets of northwest DC
“Lairmore said he ‘could feel it through his ballistic vest’ and it ‘exploded all over’ him after the Subway stack hit him. He said he ‘could smell the onions and mustard’ on his uniform, and even had an onion string hanging by his police radio later that night.”

This court case is pure gold.
Border Patrol agent testifies sandwich thrown at him "exploded all over," left mustard stains
Sean Dunn has been charged with a misdemeanor felony count for throwing a sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent during President Trump's federal takeover of D.C.

The White House—which we pay for—looks more like an Epstein-inspired child rape bordello every day, given that the only people who'd be impressed by the fake gold snot above this door or the tacky, miscolored $4-font signage beside it are kids or the sort of predator who tries to lure kids somewhere

Feeling triumphant and hopeful? Me too. But we're not out of the woods yet. Not by a mile.

Yesterday was a crucial, but small, battle win in a really scary war to take down our democratic Republic.

But the public beast is awakening. Another well researched take from @sethabramson.bsky.social.

Mamdani: "My message to ICE agents & to everyone across this city is that everyone will be held to the same standard of the law. If you violate it, you must be held accountable. There is sadly a sense growing that certain people are allowed to violate that law, whether they be POTUS or ICE agents."

The earliest anti-fascist movements were made up of very strange bedfellows - communists, socialists, anarchists, republicans (small r), trade unionists, and even monarchists in some instances.

They were “big tent” organizations with the specific purpose of driving out the authoritarian rulers.

36/ I believe our—the left’s—inability to focus on a primary goal without litigating and relitigating *every other issue we’re exercised over all the time*—is, to be clear *along with* apathy, what will destroy the United States. Not Trump: us.

*We’re* the reason, I believe, that America will fall.

35/ We all have a decision to make in these final months of American life. No one can make that decision for you. I’ve no interest in haranguing people about that decision—because candidly unless you come to a position on your own, you’re not really there, anyway. So I’m just telling you where I am.

34/ Metamodernism is about having hope even when it’s hopeless—a paradox, but metamodernists learn to live this way.

I believe America will collapse. Whereas a binary-/dialectics-oriented poststructuralist says, "Then you’re giving up," the metamodernist says, "No, I’m getting ready to *stand* up."

28/ And bluntly, 90%+ what I am seeing on the left right now is people using the Big Cause (rule of law and democracy) as a backdrop for their personal causes—which, to be clear, are often entirely just, even as they’re incompatible with the sort of massive coalition-building we need right now.

27/ I’m not here to say AI is good or bad. I’m not here to say white men don’t benefit from white privilege. I’m not here to say whether poststructuralist buzzwords like "centering" or "decentering" have metaphysical utility. I’m saying that unless we lose ourselves in activism, we’re not activists.

26/ No Kings Day 1 was amazing. No Kings Day 2 was amazing. I think these days will continue to be amazing. But 2% to 4% of America protesting isn’t enough.

We need a 40%+ coalition, and poststructuralist tropes are literally *designed* to "deconstruct" any and every 40%+ coalition. That’s its DNA.

14/ Historically, activism works when—if it has a *massively* encompassing goal that’s *very* hard to achieve—it a) focuses only on that goal (not individual activists’ other ambitions) until the main goal is achieved, b) folks are willing to work daily alongside those they disagree with on a *lot*.

When someone posts a highly effective piece of visual rhetoric that happens to be AI-generated and 33% of the left focuses on how AI is unethical rather than the end-goal of that particular usage of it, you do.

8/ SCOTUS will soon give—yes, *give*—Trump 19 new House seats by ending the Voting Rights Act. Trump will declare the Insurrection Act, then martial law, when he likes. He has eliminated any USAF brass that would stop him. And I don’t believe Trump will allow any further elections he has not rigged.

7/ Right now, I assess our chances of stopping Trump from ending democracy semi-permanently or permanently at <20%. Why? The courts have already made clear that, at least at the highest level, they cannot and will not do their jobs. Congress has literally given its gavel over. Trump has the USAF.
