For the future, I plan to view nutrition as a foundational part of overall wellness. I want to be someone who connects the dots between what we eat and how we feel. Small conversations make a difference, especially in underserved communities where nutrition is overlooked. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This is something to keep in mind especially during finals week because we as college students tend to go to what's quick and easy (usually pizza or something) It is important to keep these things in mind so we are giving our bodies everything it needs! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Too much of anything can be bad for you—that’s exactly what too much means...yet we constantly slide from "too much of something is a problem" right into "any of that is toxic!"
Many things that are risky in excess are essential or safe in moderation.
Nutrition isn’t black+white - neither is eating.

Finals got me running on caffeine and willpower lol but I try to eat like I care about my brain. I like to meal prep + get snacks. I always keep a water bottle and something munchy nearby, and don’t skip meals! It backfires every time. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Yes! I think this is why it can be so difficult to stick to consistently and why people turn to fad diets and "quick fixes." Boring can be hard but it works. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
Here's is the main reason people buy into so many bad diet & nutrition ideas: "The best advice is boring."

I've been writing about diet for decades, and I think @marionnestle.bsky.social has been more consistently right than pretty much anyone.

I agree, banning Froot Loops won't fix anything! We should be focusing on bigger issues like healthcare access and teaching people about nutrition. That's where real change can start happening. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
West Virginia is second-to-last on the healthiest states list.

Banning Froot Loops ought to take care of it.

But seriously: I don't care if you want to ban food dyes, but focusing on them and other non-issues makes it easy to ignore the real health problems.

One thing that I was unaware about is that fat shaming actually increases the likelihood of gaining weight over time. Studies show weight stigma leads to more stress and unhealthy coping. Its important to focus on compassion, not judgment especially as healthcare workers. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

One barrier I can relate to is the preference for the taste of unhealthy food. I've found that often my first quick go to when I'm craving a snack is chips or cookies rather than fruits or vegetables. I realize I make these choices because of convenience and accessibility.@beh353.bsky.social #beh353

A fun fact about protein is that is it essential in muscle building. This is why body builders focus so much on their protein intake. It acts as building blocks for muscle tissue, which means that without it, the process of muscle growth is much slower. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
