A little 1549 battling before our first #12GamesOfChristmas session. Starts with an ineffective bombardment by Crown ordnance [O bottom left] against Devon billmen on bridge [an objective]. Green marker for untried - might turn out to be exceptionally good or bad.

Second outing. French have a
Near calm sea with the hint of a Southerly breeze. Main
English sail trio are far off, but the Red Galley is returning from the Brittany coast and is in the way.

French on their way to raid Jersey in summer 1549. All under oars and the slight westerly breeze should pose no problem.

Stopped at Saintfield again on the way to Bangor. The three interpretative boards at the far end of the 1st Presbyterian Church graveyard have been replaced. An American - French - Irish revolutionary arc is stressed.

A couple more games of Memoir 44–Mont Mouchet and Vassieux, Vercors; this time both German victories in partisan clearing operations behind the main line of contact.

Naval forward planning. I have some games I have (played &unplayed) on a possibles list. However, having the 1540s as an ongoing focus I can's pass up Tudor possibilities. After all there's the Battle of the Solent 1545 and the Anthony roll with its wonderful images (Peter Pomegranate pictured).

Good to see a diverse range of games getting some additional exposure here (some I did not know about).

Tudor Storage Solutions: these were in The Range for, I think, just under £5:50 each.

Here we go with game three of this run. Think the grey Courage card is the one to go for and then set off after Hobbits. For a bit.

Here we go with the Duel: Middle Earth rematch. When you get it back out to play, stopping at just one game is a challenge.

Arrived today. With ‘something naval’ on the list for 2026, I am sure I’ll dip into more mainstream topics, but given where so much of this year’s focus has been, I could not resist this.

Readying our Duel game. First outing of it for a while.

Back to the 1798 United Irishmen rebellion and this time they won without the French ever making it over to help. A first.

Ah, the arrival of toys, sorry Game Project Materials. Polyhedral Roman numeral dice not shown as they are for something different.

At the weekend, researching figures who perhaps made a difference on the battlefield, I slipped sideways into looking at a Gt x N grandfather (subject to usual caveats) who seems to have been across the channel under safe conduct in the 1430s sorting out ransom payments for captured French notables.

Fantastic resource. Great for investigating 'my ancestor fought at ****' family tales and for tracking interesting characters.
A blast from my past - the Medieval Soldier database takes nearly 300,000 military service records from 1369-1453 and makes them available as a searchable database.

An invaluable resource for understanding medieval warfare, society and the English medieval state. Learn more in the link. 🗃️
We built a database of 290,000 English medieval soldiers – here’s what it reveals
We created the database in order to challenge assumptions about the lack of professionalism of everyday soldiers.

Started watching BBC Hamlet (Jacobi 1980) last night, and while waiting for paint to dry just now - which of course you can't watch - the Outrageous Fortune track and holding boxes created themselves.
