Pax Christi USA staff member Michelle Sherman reviews "Atomic Pilgrim," the memoir of Pax Christi Pacific Northwest member Jim Thomas, who walked with the Bethlehem Peace Pilgrimage from Washington state to Bethlehem from April 1982 until December 1983. It's an amazing story!
Book review: “Atomic Pilgrim” by Jim Thomas
By Michelle ShermanPax Christi USA national staff, Pax Christi Young Adult Caucus (PCYAC) The following review appeared in the autumn 2025 issue of Peace Current, the Pax Christi USA quarterly newsletter. This new memoir from Pax Christi USA member Jim Thomas leads readers through his experience of the Bethlehem Peace Pilgrimage of 1982-1983, but it does not stop there. The book is also an indictment of the United States’ addiction to violence and unwillingness to acknowledge the harm not only inflicted on the country of Japan, but also on the people of this country.

Endorse the Appeal for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
Next Friday, the September 26 Working Group, an open-entry group for any organization planning to commemorate the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, will present its joint appeal to the United Nations and send it to leaders, legislators and government officials around the world. The appeal has been drafted to be inclusive and able to be endorsed by everyone (individuals and organizations) working for a nuclear-weapon-free world regardless of constituency, country or approach to nuclear weapons abolition.

🚨 Trump just signed Republicans' Big Ugly Betrayal into law—the largest-ever transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in our country’s history.

This partisan bill is immoral and wrong. Americans WILL make their voices and votes heard at the ballot box.

Those who live by the sword will perish by the sword.
“NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”

Really? More like “peace” through total submission.

States aren’t like social media companies, television networks, or law firms. They don’t always cave because you attack them.

Also, Donald, you can’t win a Nobel Peace Prize by bombing.*

* Henry Kissinger excepted.

President Trump’s decision to bomb Iran’s nuclear sites is reckless and draws the US directly into Israel’s war with Iran. This is a war that the American people do not want and the world does not support.

We call for Congress to intervene and halt this war.
