Agreed but this type of thing is why academic publishing is supposed to be (and often is) superior to media.

Agree with everything you say Conrad, although one thing to note is that there's a difference between "professional" respondents, who are people who take lots of surveys, and what we call "bogus" respondents, who are essentially just clicking through and not answering honestly.

This is minor compared to the problems of AI/LLM respondents ("bots"). Still, an important note to consider.

Surveys that allow opt-in participation attract “survey professionals,” who may attempt to take the same survey multiple times using different personas (bogus respondents).

By contrast, you cannot volunteer for a @pewresearch.org survey. We invite randomly sampled people to be surveyed.
