I had no words to say to the owner of an off-lead dog, that attacked our Labrador, unprovoked, while on a close-lead, at Froggatt Edge, Derbyshire #PeakDistrict late October. She recovered after two courses of antibiotics but was extremely unwell from the infection. Keep dogs under control.

But beware generalising from a single study site. In a meta-analysis of wader nest camera studies in UK (Yellow in graph, 356 predation events) badger were the predominant predator of clutches. Same true for passerines. #ornithology

Local, wild (not farmed) venison for sale in Lochalsh, supporting deer management. Would be great to see this local venison distribution widespread in England for muntjac.

Common Calamint newly appeared in this eutrophic verge after ground disturbance (building new wall). Seedbank echo of a softer semi-natural past history.

In woodland, 117 nest predation events were identified on camera, but with rather (very) few different passerine species monitored. More nest camera studies would really improve our evidence base.

Man Orchid for tonight’s #Wildflowerhour #OrchidChallenge. In contrast all the local Bee Orchids rosettes that had over-wintered were burnt off in the drought.

Quality conservation habitat creation. Starts with the mineral soil and maximum nutrient removal; slows succession, many more generations ea. niche/ micro habitat available, allows colonisation & peak populations. Fab.
