Written by Vince Gilligan, starring the brilliant Rhea Seehorn, and funded by Apple’s giant money cannon.

It’s happening.

Even on a cloudy Sunday in Essex, a set of solar panels plus a 5kWh battery and hybrid inverter mean that I’m exporting to the grid right now.

The daylight is enough to meet the house’s electricity needs and send the excess up.

💯. Look what they did to the Home Screen - the weather temperature readings are practically hidden.

Especially zoomed out (the map is 256x256 tiles, same as SimCity 4)

It is starting to look really nice.

Added some pavements, even for the rounded corners. Not perfect but the image assets can be tweaked at any time (they’re just png images).

Turns out html5 canvas elements have a hard limit of 268,435,456 pixels to render.

In other news, Babsland will let you make maps that are 256x256 tiles wide, the same number as SimCity 4 had.

Added some trees to Babsland. Pixel artist I am not, but will hopefully get better with practice.

Still amazed that the whole website (including assets) is only 110KB. Great job by @vite.dev and @svelte.dev #gamedev #buildinpublic

Babsland (which will be changing name - turns out it gets blocked by internet filters) can render different image asset sets.

Will be adding support to swap between image asset sets for maps shortly.

More performance improvements in Babsland.

The map is redrawn only when tiles in the map change, not when the camera moves about.

Before panning/zooming would eat up ~25-30% CPU, now it’s at 3-4%.

I can do things like make Kevin Costner’s Waterworld

Managed to nail the biggest performance problem in Babsland - dragging and dropping large areas like water and sand (and buildings). Now it performs snappy (and features a preview of the area too).

Google Chrome DevTools did a great job helping me to debug it.

Babsland now lets you load and save multiple maps with what you want to name them.

Loads of new chargers at Baldock services. No more waiting for a free charger (used to be a total of 6, now there are 24).

Babsland now has very basic map saving & loading, thanks to the power of HTML5 LocalStorage.

Expect the feature to evolve a bit in the near future. #buildinpublic #gamedev
