Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Vice President Kamala Harris is a class act. She handled the electoral vote count with grace and dignity. AND SHE WAS ADDRESSED AS PRESIDENT!

I don't care what TIME says.

MY Person of the Year is Kamala Harris.

TIME got it wrong.

So did America.

I'm totally OK with being called woke. It just means that I'm showing off my green flags. Happy to follow others with green flags.

It took me twelve years (!) to build up my audience on Twitter. It took 5 days to surpass the 50% point of my Twitter following on Bluesky. I’m hopeful that the overall growth on this site will negate the need to go on Twitter altogether. Sad to see what it devolved into, but thrilled to see it die.

A quote attributed to Bradbury says “If you want to write your first novel, sit down and write it. When you’re finished, go into the backyard, dig a whole, bury it, go back inside, sit down, and write your first novel.” The act of writing your first book will teach you how to actually do it right.
There's this exercise is animation courses that's basically making a very good drawing and then tearing it up. I don't think there's a good writing equivalent.

The part of your brain that creates is different from the part of your brain that interprets and edits, so when you edit while you write, you knock yourself out of your groove.

Write fearlessly then edit judiciously later, preferably with a break in between to gain perspective on the work.

Being a perfectionist in your writing is the default setting for new writers. We all start that way. But when you’re building a house, you don’t paint it as you go. You lay a foundation, build a structure, put in the wiring & pipes, build the walls and lay the floors, THEN you can think about paint.

The thing about Twitter versus Bluesky is that the right needs liberals on Twitter to make it feel worthwhile, whereas the left doesn’t need conservatives on Bluesky to make it feel worthwhile.
