We're gonna need more of the same ship.

Not to backseat DM, but If you're looking for an in-universe solution to that, someone with their own reasons for wanting us to succeed but who doesn't respect our title might be the kind of bluntly straightforward advisor / party member this party needs. I'm kind of picturing Morrigan from DA:O.

Like, "why would the colonial viceroy go dungeon-crawling?" can be a fun little in-character exercise for a bit but ultimately the answer is "because we're playing D&D."

And I think you're well within your rights as the DM to say "this is the game I want to run and if you can't come up with an in-character reason to play the game, then just play the game because that's the game we're playing" - whether you'd rather run D&D or GURPS or what have you.

I think it's awe-inspiring that you've taken on the challenge of DMing for a nebulous crowd of whatever randos are in your replies. I wish I was able to participate more as the threads are happening but I've enjoyed reading through them after the fact too.

But also as much as I was looking forward to getting to the dungeon, it seems like the consensus here is in favor of Fantasy Colonial Government Simulator rather than dungeon crawling.

I think on a more like, operational level, someone who isn't so deferential to the main character can say in-character things like "no we're not sending the marines in to storm the dungeon for us, we have to do this as an adventuring party because Reasons."

I was wondering if it might help to have a party member who can signpost "there is plot in this direction" to us a little more clearly. And maybe nudge us along when we're starting to flounder.

This seems like the perfect job for three, maybe four humanoids, plus a bird.

Also, hundreds of colonial troops clanking down the street would give the cultists ample time to flee and cover their tracks. We'd end up looking like we'd wasted resources on a paranoid whim, further destabilizing the delicate political situation we're navigating.

It was also that guy's first day and Iberic isn't his first language either.

Banging your head on a few doorways and light fixtures is a small price to pay for *principles.*

Let's show the rebels we'll never yield. Rebuild the viceroy's mansion exactly where the old one stood, every stick identical to the previous design. Show them their foul rituals were all in vain.

If we're *really* lucky, maybe they had the foresight to scrounge up someone else who knows a little Sasquatch to be our bodyguard (I don't think we're that lucky).

I'd maybe want to try and find out her name and where she's from? Getting her talking about herself might calm her down a bit, and maybe even reveal some information, if we're lucky maybe she already knows something about our destination.

On the other hand, Elon seems like the type to convince himself he'll genuinely never die.

A normal person: This is just a slightly different set of rules to simulate reality. There is no need to explain why maces do a point less of damage now.

Forgotten Realms writers: Torm’s gerbil got smashed by a mace so he used his god powers to punish mace users.

In my experience having spent much of my life surrounded by people bent on my political destruction, the most irritating thing you can do to them is have an inner life and protect whatever peace you can have.

I'm in grieving right now, but what's the appropriate grieving period for a bright future that never was?
