I love shooting Hyundai's Ioniq models. So many great design details to highlight, even for a clueless amateur like me. This is the Ioniq 5 XRT and it's not the trim I'd buy, but it's a super interesting and visually striking one.

A huge thanks to the @nytimes.com Climate Forward newsletter for highlighting our video on BYD's five-minute fast-charging! That story and shoot took a considerable amount of doing, and I'm quite proud of how it turned out. And yes—why can't America do this? www.nytimes.com/2025/08/19/c...

It's a fun color! Not something I would've normally chosen but it's really grown on me. It can look very different depending on the light it's in.

This is one of the most damning accounts of new car flaws that I’ve ever read, and I’m stunned it came from an actual, established car company in 2025 insideevs.com/news/765981/...

Well, Elon's AI has gone completely Nazi, but at least it's also... spewing harmful gas turbine emissions into the air

Here’s the thing: do we want cheaper EVs or not? Because not licensing this battery tech from CATL would’ve taken Ford a decade to develop LFP at scale on its own:

I’ve been on vacation all week and so it’s great to see Stellantis’ “we’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas” EV strategy going just as intended

Nio's dropping the tiny Firefly pretty explicitly for Europe soon ("China doesn't really like small cars," a rep told me.) This thing's a riot. It's the electric Mini Cooper that should've been. As a 2x former Mini owner, I loved it. Battery-swapping soon too. Feels like that will sell better there.

I only got a little time with the Nio ET5. This guy's an older model, and it's been on sale in Europe too for a couple of years. Like a Model 3, but taller, better-looking inside and out, and with battery-swapping. Not a strong seller in Europe, though. Which is why...

More Chinese cars, driven—for you! The Nio ET9 is headed to Europe to take on the likes of the 7 Series. I dunno if it has that much juice, but the car is very, very good—cushy, amazing air suspension, the best (and cutest) AI assistant I've seen. @gaytonausa.bsky.social is a big fan.

I don't love big SUVs but the Lynk & Co. 900 was kind of my favorite of the three. It's a PHEV, but with a big battery, small engine; 52.4 kWh and a 2.0 four. Should get nearly 900 miles' range in China, hence the name. A Range Rover for half the price.
April 25, 2025 at 10:20 PM
The Zeekr 007 GT is a go-fast spaceship with impressive tech. Kind of between a Model 3 and Model S. As a wagon (in purple!) it feels tailor-made for car nerds. 637 hp, dual motor, should add 300 miles of range in 15 minutes. Should be a BMW-fighter in Europe.
April 25, 2025 at 10:20 PM
Some thoughts after having driven some advanced EVs in China, at least two of which are headed to Europe soon:

Lynk & Co.'s Z20 is like a nicer, more interesting Volvo EX30. Single-motor but still quite quick. 66 kWh. Starts at €35,495 in Europe. I'd buy one if it were sold in America, honestly.
April 25, 2025 at 10:20 PM
I get messages about China's EV market all the time. But if it were even remotely true, then why are Chinese EVs running around GM's tech center? Why did Ford's CEO drive a Xiaomi SU7 for months? Why is VW's CEO treating this situation like a five-alarm fire?
