Missed it at TIFF, but caught up on it tonight, Japan's Oscar submission KOKUHO is a stunner. Beautifully shot and realized, I think this is a dark horse of the category.

Lots of good stuff out this weekend, incl. Train Dreams, Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, and (on Disney+) Love+War. Looking forward to catching up with Die My Love!

Train Dreams is coming to Netflix, but you'll want to see this one in a theatre. A beaut. Very Malickian.

Really impressed by Switzerland's Oscar submission LATE SHIFT. Plays a lot like THE PITT with its take on the personal toll of the nursing shortage as one woman holds down the fort in her short-staffed ward. Great performance by Leonie Benesch (THE TEACHERS' LOUNGE) carries pretty much every frame.

Coexistence My Ass, one of the better documentaries this year, is back in town this weekend.

Not a proper theatrical run--what docs are getting those here these days?--but a highlight in Toronto's increasingly numerous field of one-off screenings.
