Promoted by Patrick McAllister (Bristol Green Party) at 17 Great George St, Bristol BS1 5QT.
Today, I and other @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social councillors approved *£53,000* to refurbish the Brandon Hill ponds and get a replacement waterfall pump! 🌊

I am so happy that this site of such importance will once again flourish and flow, delighting visitors and supporting the park's wildlife. 🐸

A fantastic doorknocking session this evening in Hotwells & Harbourside. The cold can't keep the Greens down! 💪

Lots of support on the doors for @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social and the work @carladenyer.bsky.social and myself are doing in the area, and picked up some face-to-face casework as well 💚

Great to speak at the Bristol Green Party AGM as the Council's finance chair, talking to our members about the successes and challenges of setting Bristol's billion pound budget in this time of continued spending constraint from national government.

Bristol Green councillors again turned out to help stand between anti-migrant protestors and a hotel housing vulnerable asylum seekers.

The protesters claim to "defend women and girls" but what about the terrified women and girls who are living in the hotel thanks to the UK's broken asylum system?

Another day at the picket line supporting the striking school support workers! 🤝

Got to spend more time with the lovely Mabel 🐶 as well.

Schools could not run without support staff, and society could not run without schools.

✊ Inspiring to join this morning's picket in my ward, in solidarity with the school support staff strike for back pay

📢 I read a statement of support from @carladenyer.bsky.social, in Parliament today

💚 @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social backs workers striking for fair pay and conditions

🤝Solidarity!

At today's Council meeting I brought a statement condemning the worrying rise in extremism and violence afflicting the UK.

As politicians we have a duty to stand against rising extremist rhetoric. We must be able to disagree on policies without indulging in the politics of hate.

I was grateful recently to speak at a beautiful ceremony of Bristol's Sikh and Hindu communities consecrating Bristol's first Ashes Immersion Site.

Hotwells & Harbourside proudly hosts this site, which will welcome people of all faiths and none who wish to commit loved ones' ashes to the river.

Today I was pleased to be able to check out progress at the Cumberland Basin lock gates with the Harbour Master. The work is coming along well and the crew working on this critical infrastructure deserve a lot of praise 👏

I will keep monitoring progress - looking forward to them being fixed!⛵

A great evening out in Long Ashton supporting the by-election! Looking strong but Reform were out today as well so every vote matters 💪

The Green candidate is the fantastic Mike Dunn - Long Ashton will have a dedicated and compassionate representative in him 💚

Great to visit All Aboard Watersports yesterday afternoon!

We discussed current and future developments around the Harbour and how to support Bristol's watersports sector.

AAW do fantastic work, especially with disadvantaged and SEND kids, and it is always a privilege to visit and support them.

The A4 Portway northbound (red) will be closed overnight on Thursday 16 October 10pm to 5am, for white line painting to make it more accessible.

While the Portway is closed, all motor traffic will need to follow the signposted diversion (blue).

💚 Great to join Bristol Young Greens this afternoon for a litterpick around Brandon Hill park! BYG does fantastic work as part of the @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social family - if you or a young person you know would like to get involved, let me know!

🚮 Keeping the streets clean is a Green priority!

🪙As Bristol Council's Chair of Finance, I'm delighted our administration confirmed today that the our library budget will be protected for the next year.

📖Greens will always fight to protect our vital libraries.

🛑BUT - this depends on the Labour govt properly funding councils in the future.

*Making our roads more dangerous to own the libs*

1) Terrible execution, that cross is wobbly. Do better, "patriots".

2) When the Council has to spend time + money cleaning these signs instead of <literally anything else>, I'm sure the people who do stuff like this will be the first to complain.

Great to visit Young Bristol today to hear about their bold plans for reinvigorating their Pooles Wharf premises!

Young Bristol does amazing work especially with vulnerable and deprived children, and I'm very proud to be able to support them.

Today, I and other @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social members and councillors stood shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of others to protect a hotel housing asylum seekers, calling out the poisonous bigotry corrupting our society.
We've done it before. We'll do it again. Solidarity ✊

In anticipation of the protests, from 7am Sat-7am Sun in central Bristol the police will be enforcing a section 60AA Order allowing them to ask people to remove face coverings, and a section 35 dispersal order letting them move people on from the area.

The govt's plan to stop children finding adult content online will just:
1) create a massive data target for hackers
2) ↑ VPN downloads
3) not work for any remotely tech-literate child
4) annoy every adult who doesn't want to hand over their bank details to obscure 3rd parties to use chat messaging.
