Men like Putin and Trump are on the same wavelength because they're foolish men who don't understand the necessity of peace. War is a useless pursuit that leads ultimately to desolation.

How realistic is ‘Conclave,’ the movie?

It tries to showcase the battle for the soul of the church that takes place during a papal election & examines the tension between the demands of faith and the desire for high office.

How realistic is ‘Conclave,’ the movie that lifts the lid on how a pope is elected? | CNN
This has been a blockbuster election year politically, so it’s fitting that a new movie shines a light on an ancient and highly secretive voting process: the selection of a new pope.

The Church of England and the wider Anglican Communion are in uncharted waters after the voluntary resignation of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who quit just five days after he vowed that he would not resign.
What now for the Anglican Communion?
LONDON (RNS) — Besides needing to pick a new leader, the Church of England has an urgent need to show in short order that it can respond to abuse.

Just a reminder about this: Per @prripoll.bsky.social, white evangelicals *dramatically* flipped on the issue of politicians’ character back in 2016, and basically never looked back.

It’s been a useful stat for my reporting ever since.

Attention is like time: it’s tempting to believe that it has always been there regardless of our noticing, but it is in fact shaped by and inseparable from our means of counting it."

The Attention Trap
The idealized image of attention as control is not so much a virtue as a phantom or mirage of one.

Deus vult’ began as a rallying cry for the Crusades. More recently, it’s been adopted by the far right. And we’re not even supposed to wonder/ask why it’s tattooed on the arm of the next defense secretary?
