It's an appropriate method of coping. I understand that some people just try and tune everything out. But at least for me, I feel like that would be avoidance rather than managing to function, so I try to keep going with whatever humour I can share with those around me.

My advice here is the advice I would give to Democratic "leaders". Quit your job and get therapy! Make way for people who are ready to meet the moment right now. It's a win-win.

To be fair, many of his friends are probably Democrats in congress, who lack the self awareness to understand that they have been bullied into acting from fear, and are incapable of reasoning through the consequences of their actions.

This just feels to me like a kind of soft denial of reality while watching it happen.

It is an unfortunate reality that we are going to keep pumping out CO₂, at least in the immediate future, and making these storms bigger and bigger. With 75 years left in the century, this is statistically, vanishingly unlikely to end up being the worst we're going to get.
