Anti-genocide (can’t believe I even have to declare that)

Former public servant finding new ways to serve. Opinions are my own. Feel free to make them yours.
Worth remembering here that Rep. George Lattimer is the candidate who was massively funded by AIPAC in last year’s Democratic primary. He unseated Rep. @jamaalbowmanny.bsky.social, a powerful voice opposing Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians.

We must do what it takes to let our leaders know that they need to change course. There are times when speaking truth to power requires us to shout to be heard. If the cause is righteous, history will forgive us. 7/7

Look, I don’t think interrupting speeches or breaking decorum is the most effective way to win friends, influence people or change policy. But when lives are at stake, when people are suffering, we must all act. We must bang our pots and pans, yell from the rooftops and yes, raise a cane. 6/7

Perhaps we shouldn’t have been so quick to demean advocates who begged Obama to stop the deportations of vulnerable immigrants. And, of course, there are the brave souls who repeatedly tried to engage Biden and Harris on the human and political consequences of their steadfast support for ‘sræI. 5/7

I hope you can understand the betrayal many LGBTQ people felt over Clinton’s decisions to sign Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the Defense of Marriage Act. Maybe we feel differently today about folks who confronted Senators Kerry and Clinton over their votes in favor of the war in Iraq. 4/7

If you can understand – and even appreciate – Rep. Green’s reasoning, then I hope you can see past partisanship here.

I hope you can relate to young men who protested LBJ because they didn’t want to fight a war In Vietnam. 3/7

“What I did was from my heart. People are suffering and I was talking about Medicaid. I didn’t just say, ‘You don’t have a mandate.’ I said, ‘You don’t have a mandate to cut Medicaid.’ I did it from my heart and I will suffer whatever the consequences are. But, truthfully, I would do it again.” 2/7

It seems self-evident: “La vida se guarda.” (Life is to be saved). And yet, I know that it’s not. Every day we are confronted by the fire. What do we treasure? What will we save? 2/2

Grateful for the Bishop’s clarion voice. Ten months ago, she used that same voice to call for compassion and mercy for the people of Palestine.

She was right and righteous then just as she is now 🙏🏾

Ask yourself a simple question: if she is so right and righteous about this, why do we choose to ignore her on that? The good lord has sent us a Catholic Pope, an Episcopalian Bishop, over a thousand Black pastors and more rabbis than I can count. What more do we need? 3/3

Many are saying she reflects the essence of Christian love, fellowship and justice. But I suspect that many folks praising her today either do not know – or choose to ignore – the words she spoke 10 months ago, when she made a plea for compassion and mercy for another group of people. 2/3

And I urge the rest of us to commit to doing the hard work of creating a lasting peace, one that begins with truth, justice, reparations and reconciliation. That is how we honor President Carter, that peanut farmer, preacher, patriot and peacemaker, the man so many of us will say we admire. 5/5
