Hooked up some govee Christmas lights to WLED and put them around the Christmas tree 🎄. Pretty sure I wandered to put WLED powered devices everywhere now.

New post: a defense of lock poisoning in Rust.

Followup to recent discussion: decided to write about lock poisoning, looking at the arguments on each side, and informed by our experience at @oxide.computer dealing with the parallel problem of unexpected async cancellations

Please give it a read!

Okay now that I’m caught up, I can’t stop thinking about those first 4 episodes. Vol 2 seems so far away now…
I’m realizing I need to block social media until I finish watching vol 1 of the new stranger things season. Everyone out there is trying to spoil it!

The Sabres manage to get the most horrendous no goal calls. It’s crazy!
The call on the ice stands. The ref's mic once again did not work, so we didn't get to hear his explanation. But the Sabres now have to kill off a penalty because of the failed challenge. The crowd is less than pleased.

When I saw the reveal I thought $800 for a base model. I’m surprised people were anticipating much lower prices.

The Steam Machine price debate is ramping up, with a "console pricing model" of $500 looking very unlikely. https://bit.ly/482Kw6j

My colleague Dave Pacheco wrote up a great description of a new (to us?) Rust async pathology--"futurelock"--another extremely sharp edge to watch out for, with no particular guardrails. Of course, we'll be talking about it with @bcantrill.bsky.social on Monday's Oxide and Friends
