Saw a movie post about a film that I am a detractor for. But I did not comment.

Rage posting is the tool of the enemy. We do not use it. We do not *need* it.

Last year Sky News was rending its garments over Starmer's free eyeglasses: WHAT INFLUENCE DID LORD ALLI BUY?

Now, RefUK get £9m from a crypto bro, they have not one word about the donor's interests; just BRAVO NIGEL, barely concealed glee, and "what a huge boost... money goes where momentum is". 🤡

I’m going to miss the BBC an awful lot. It’s a very important part of British life.

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice.

It doesn't have to be this way.

Yes. We keep writing headlines that assign powers to the president that he does not have.

If you collaborated with a friend to build a big sandcastle, you'd probably be pretty pleased. If that friend then decided to demonstrate his power by stomping all over the castle devaluing it - how would you feel? Is it a surprise that he has this ability? No. Collaborate again? Probably not.

This is one of the most chilling things I have seen for a long time. This is what Trump is about. He's not a statesman. He's acting more like a bullying gangster, tormenting hostages.
BREAKING: Donald Trump right now:

And don't let some of these politicians...let me tell you. These countries are calling me, kissing my ass, they are dying to make a [trade] deal..."please please sir let me make a deal, I'll do anything, I'll do anything sir."

This is an actual government communication channel. The US govt has been hijacked and everyone seems to be carrying on as if all is normal.

Trump and co can't keep this concealed forever - it's going to start affecting people.
LIVE: Fox presenters’ souls leave their body as they’re forced to finally tell the truth about tariffs.

Here, the story a small business making products for kids with special needs. Its tariff bill has gone from $26,000 to $346,000. Fatal.

A fate Fox deserves for months of tariff disinformation.

If Trump hates humiliation so much and really wants respect - as he has so often expressed - why does he choose to do things that everyone knows will make him a laughing stock?

Countries around the world should be changing future plans, changing the way they trade, changing their relationship with - and any reliance on - the USA.
The consequence is that the USA will be left out of things in future. They will be sidelined and become a marginalised country. (Permanently?)
The credibility of the US government is completely shot.

Gone.

Annihilated.

Nobody anywhere in the world can believe a single word that comes out of this Administration.

Ever.

Let's stop talking about Trump policies as if he's just mad and random, and try to understand what he wants to do.

Trump has talked about loving tariffs since the 1980s.
Edward Fishman discusses the reasons:

All the economic turmoil around the world's stock exchanges is part of the plan. It's not some kind of failure.
This is a demonstration of POWER: Trump saying "Look what I can do!"

Not just make it look "more scientific" (because they suddenly do approve of scientific experts after all?) but more importantly to obscure it and discourage people from talking about it.
Those working for the Trump administration did not only include greek letters in the tariff formula to make something non-sensical look more scientific; they also referred to publications in top-5 journals (AER, QJE) - just to be sure that scientific authority is on their side ;)

Is a trade deficit the same as "unfair trade practices"? (as expressed by Whitehouse spokesperson)
Is trade deficit/surplus a bad thing for a country and we should always ensure Balance Of Trade?
Can any economists explain this?

What this piece doesn’t say is that they took the funds because they were almost destitute having had to return funding from a Kremlin backed bank when they got found out so they took the EU money to bail them out in France. She deserves her punishment.

This is right. These ARE sanctions.
And it's not revitalization or you'd promote it differently: long-term planning, support for people financing and building new factories. It takes time and can't just burst to life instantly when you put prices up.
People will suffer; governments should mitigate.
NEW: There's no reason to act like Trump is pursuing a trade policy or an industrial revitalization strategy.
These are just sanctions, imposed to intimidate countries and companies into submission like they're universities or law firms. They're what a mob boss would do.

They’re Not Tariffs, They’re Sanctions
Stop trying to place coherence on a policy that’s really just a mob boss breaking legs and asking for protection money.
