They are part of a greater narrative of galaxy scale war, one that IMO needs named characters to die without swansong for verisimilitude.
I don't think there is a way you can kill a named character outside of a big self sacrifice scene, without folks being unhappy. But I think you should.

Several years ago a guy kept posting random abuse at me, and kept calling me 'word bearer' like it was a mortally wounding insult.
I made the above post about it. It got screen shot and its constantly wheeled out as proof Im a fake fan and dont even know who word bearers are 🙄

I get the franchise reasons. But in a setting of constant war & planet killing weapons, the fact that Bob keeps showing up tests my suspension of disbelief.
