All this posting about off screen 'departures', reminds me of the exit of Dodo, one of the Doctors companions. She doesn't appear in the last episode of her final story, and doesn't even get a goodby. The new companions simply passing on a message for her, that's shes decided to stay on earth :P

I'm probably a touch less cynical about it, but I do think its an attempt to make marketable characters, and I don't think psycho Bob was cutting it. :P
But to me it makes the universe feel smaller.

Back I was silly enough to argue online, I was astounded at how many of the 'gatekeepers' apparently had difficulty reading entire tweets.
To this day a post where I called Word Bearers a 40k faction is used as proof I didn't know they were one.
It is near the bottom of the tweet though so... 🥴

Trying something new.
I like to zenithal my minis. I also like to sup assemble character minis that have had to access areas.
So this time I'm doing both. Primed in black. Temp assembled with blutack and zenithaled then broken apart again.
Let see if this helps me at all

Its a thicker (and maybe different) plastic then regular straw plastic. A kind of half way to multi-use straw. Its not given me any issues on previous builds. For that matter, neither have regular straws (I use spray primers)

Apart from drilling the barrel it's as it comes.
Here is a side shot from the GW site.

I always like to put a little extra effort into the bases of character minis. The Alphus is getting a Necromunda plate and ash watstes base. I've built the plate from a 3mm mdf/plasticard sandwich and some thick straws for pipes.
The 'ash' will be added after its primed.

The ceremonial new project tidy has been done, I'm ready to start.
(I like to start each project fresh. I wipe down the surfaces, clean all the brushes and generally tidy everything away, so I can mess it up all over again!)

Some bits an pieces I quite liked in the reveal show. Some I'm more meh about, but will float someones boat. In the end its what its all about. Its a hobby. A fun and engaging pastime. If your point of engagement becomes hating on it, you've gone wrong. Let it go and move on to pastures green :)

Culture warriors love to have art made of themselves as (much fitter) violent military authority figures.
I draw myself as an unflattering flying head creature from a TTRPG of my youth.
I feel like this says something about each of us :P

So the last few weeks have been me rushing to bang out some stuff for my new DnD game. Although there is always more to be done, I'm going to rest for a second and see where the urge to create takes me anon (come on urge!)

Making characters for video games reveals aspects of myself in my avatars.
Angry, scarred and gothic.

And my simple ocean mat is done.

The base colours are down... and this is a terrible photo of it :P
(My camera phone is not great)

The timing of this video for me. A friend found some of my mid 90s minis in storage about 2 weeks ago, and sent them back to me including some of my old warzone minis!

Ocean Board WIP 01
I bought the supplies to try this method some time ago... then put them in the cupboard.
But today I have broken them back out!
This is a play area sized sheet of plastic backed canvas drop cloth, now coated with acrylic calk.
Lets make it happen. (Fingers crossed)

Like the old GW tree dinner plate :P
I think I have 3 or 4 of them around in different configurations

Rushed rocks finished with a few days to spare (so I can make a couple of other things)
I'm always amazed at what a little bit of foam an paint can do and I encourage folks to give it a go themselves :)

Cant believe I forgot
Reality vs Durability.
Thin branches, crumbling substrate, plaster cast detailing & more make for great visuals, but will explode if you look at them funny.
Players who are less precious about your minis then you are will be using this stuff. Sacrifice real for robust.
October 27, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Reality vs Life.
You have finite free time & money
Pick your battles. In the end this is about having fun.
Some terrain is better then no terrain but after that basic is covered, bespoke per encounter custom terrain adds like 10% to the final fun, max.
Save it for climatic fights, & have a life.
October 27, 2025 at 1:26 AM
Reality vs Usability.
Trees with canopy make it hard to reach minis
Jagged rocks that minis slid off of.
Dungeons with walls that interact poorly with mini bases.
These things look great, but this isn't a diorama. Usability needs to be present. Flatten those rocks, remove branches & walls.
October 27, 2025 at 1:20 AM
Reality vs Speed.
3inch x 3inch dungeon tiles + bespoke elements may allow you to slavishly follow the dungeon map & construct believably unique environments...
They also take 20min to set up each encounter.
Real takes a back seat to speed ans a smattering of different size rooms will do.
