All famines are man-made, all famines are political. Historians of empire and humanitarianism have known this forever. Gaza is not starving, Gaza is being starved, by Israel, and this starvation is enabled by our government and by every other government that does not step in to force food and aid.

Fossil fuels have “run out of road”, the head of the United Nations says, with the price of renewable energy now so cheap the energy transition cannot be stopped.

I think about this a lot when writing. There's no permanence on the web and never has been.
We let the web rot away well before LLMs

This chart shows the percentage of links from all New York Times articles that still work. Over 60% of older links are now broken. And consider that social media posts are even more ephemeral

Likely only LLMs will “remember” the old web at this point.

great thread highlighting the often-overlooked later history and achievements of the Wages for Housework Campaign into the 1990s
So there is a review this week in @thenation.com of a book that is 1/3 about my mother and grandmother and their organizing work, and this is now the nth review that states the misinformation that the Wages for Housework Campaign ended in the 1980s.

This is completely false. 🧵
The Enduring Lessons of Wages for Housework
Emily Callaci’s history of the international feminist movement examines the influence of their intellectual and political victories.
