For #FossilFriday, let's look at what is both the most and least important stat on the Big Spreadsheet of North American Fossil Exhibits: how many of the mounted skeletons on display are real? 🧵

The James and Louise Temerty Galleries of the Age of Dinosaurs & the Reed Gallery of the Age of Mammals will be temporarily closed from Nov 3 until Dec 5, 2025 as we prepare to welcome visitors back to a new and expanded gallery experience that will showcase even more of our favourite dinosaurs.

My latest for @nytimes.com! For 40 years, paleontologists have grappled over whether a small tyrannosaur — named Nanotyrannus — was its own animal, or simply a teenage T.rex. The debate has been ... contentious. Which is why it's so fun to finally be able to say this:

Folks? Nanotyrannus is real.

My latest! For @nytimes.com, I wrote about the first in-depth scientific study of Da Chicago Archeopteryx, a super nice specimen that helps clarify a lot about the animal's ecology

Quetzalcoatlus will be one of the stars of #JurassicWorldRebirth, and you can get a scope of its size by visiting places like the ROM, Field Museum and HMNS. #FossilFriday

Recently two Allosaurs and a Stegosaurus were auctioned off. Hopefully they’ll find a home at a museum like other specimens have, and maybe they’ll be together like the Allo and Stego at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. #dinosaurs #FossilFriday

AMNH is now home to two stegosaurs, with one permanent resident on the 4th floor.

Hi, BlueSky! We're here for the party, and we brought a NEW dinosaur with us. Meet Apex. Discovered in 2022 near Dinosaur, Colorado, this Stegosaurus is the largest ever found, measuring 11 ft (3.4 m) tall & 27 feet (8.2 m) long. You can see it at the Museum starting on Sunday, December 8! 🦴

The first Trump administration eviscerated science in the federal government at the EPA, NOAA, and elsewhere, and brought in deep climate deniers. It took 4 years of the Biden administration to rebuild science at the federal level and now it's going to be gutted again. Stand up for science.

ok ok I have tried to pull together a list of all the natural history museums and people who work at them!

Unsurprisingly this is very NHM London biased, so if you work at or know of other natural history museums on here then let me know! 👇

(My first post) A hadrosaur arm bone absolutely covered in toothmarks made by a carnivorous #dinosaur, probably a #tyrannosaur, although there have been suggestions that these small marks might be from #raptors. US public lands (BLM); Judith River Fm, Montana; ~76Ma, Cretaceous. #fossilfriday
