I nearly put Great Pretender on again but maybe I'll watch HMH instead, it's been a while. Even though Netflix is putting up new images to try to tempt me

And yes I ship them, although it's very complicated, and the fic I've been writing in my head for ~3 years is just.....way too long to actually deal with. They have a total of 5 fics on AO3, so, y'know. One less than when I kicked off a fresh wave of Xanatowen I guess

Shori was the character who surprised me the most when I first watched #KyoKaraMaoh - he's the main character's overprotective older brother, so you'd think he'd be annoying or a foil. But he's intelligent and thoughtful and really does try to understand the perspective of those who took Yuri away.

when your favorite show takes 60 episodes for your favorite characters to share a scene together, so you always have to rewatch it about 15 times before continuing

I should read this beast first though. And like. All my other books.

I haven't been watching Nocturne because quite frankly I'm not interested in a Castlevania world without Trevor in it.

But now I'm having a LOT of thoughts about Alucard going to sleep for what, 300 years, because he felt the same way?

me: I'm getting really frustrated with my fic again, i need to take a break and do something mindless for a while

my television:

when you accidentally type a single letter in the search bar instead of the full word you were looking for, and your google doc has a complete meltdown at the unreasonable demand

I loved basically everything about the show, but it needed a more substantial ending to deal with all the messy complicated experiences they slogged through.

Which is why I started writing my fic to begin with. It's certainly not perfect. But it was necessary, for me.

But you don't get over trauma overnight. Laurent spent more than a decade trapped in this life that just kept hurting him and others around him. Edamura went through absolute hell with Akemi and his father. The final episode's cheery heist wrap up was...a weirdly abrupt tone shift.

I love this show, including all the devastatingly human imperfection of Case 4. I love some final pieces of ending...like seeing Laurent make a choice about what to hold onto and what to leave behind.

- Laurent reads Edamura in the midst of an intensely chaotic scene & pivots to respond exactly as he needs to. Which Edamura clearly expected.

- This quiet talk on the boat after everyone else is asleep...the future, their plans... When they DO talk it's exceptionally good.

Some thoughts:
1. the communication between Laurent & Oz is top-tier
2. Laurent being able to casually break out a move like this is v hot
3. it's funny then that he lets other people mostly do the "action scenes," as he told Clark. he has so many skills.
4. flexible 😏

I honestly don't think Laurent does enjoy deceiving people all that much. It's just his life as he's chosen to live it for too long; after he lost Dorothy, he didn't care about anything or anyone. Especially himself. But that lack of honesty made him lose a lot along the way.

This scene really got me the first time I watched it. Largely because so much of what he's saying is right. His father abandoned him for someone he'd never even heard of. It's a lot of excuses; he could've found a way to be there for his family, too.

He is really not doing well.

The way Laurent not only sees her, even years after the initial trauma - he has conversations with her, he's able to touch her.

He's angry, and rightfully so. How can he ever trust anything his father says? Most of his life has been a lie.

It was actually important for Oz to tell him, since he's the one who freshly betrayed his son, and had been doing it for all these years. And he's definitely the one Edamura is most angry with.

When, exactly, was he planning on telling him? Edamura's right to call him a liar.
