4th Year BSc Architecture student at the University of Bath and a bit of a flaneur. Interested in sustainable design and C20 styles.
Brilliant find! When I worked at a café at Uni my boss said "you're studying architecture right?" and gave me a copy of the same, along with some other classics.

All I'm saying is that if we keep building the way we always have without critical rethinking, we perpetuate wasteful design decisions. A semi-detached with the same insulation as a terraced home is going to lose more heat no matter what. More material used, more energy wasted.

I'm disappointed that you appear to value the aesthetics of different housing typologies over their environmental impact. As you say, the semi is 100 years old, and a response to the conditions of that time. New houses must be designed with our current social and environmental challenges in mind.

These are the kind of homes MHCLG should be working to promote - not dated ideals from the last century. We have to design for the future, because it will cost us much more down the line if we build homes that lock us in to another 50 years of high-carbon living.

Don't be afraid! I have no issue with single family dwellings, just the sparser density shown in the image. There have been plenty of great models for such developments in recent years, and we need to be applying them everywhere! Goldsmith Street in Norwich is a good example.

I can't speak for the exact views of the person you're replying to, but I feel it perpetuates the idea that sprawling car-dependent suburbia should be the standard for British homes. If you have a few minutes this video excellently outlines the issues with it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVUe...

I assume it's a copyright free way of saying Gartic phone, but that still doesn't explain the banana 😅

The architect came to our campus to give a talk, went really into depth on this project. While I've never experienced the theatre as is, I can say exciting things are coming!

In a similar Festival of Britain style is Central Parade on Hoe St, Walthamstow. Designed by borough architect F.G. Southgate and completed in 1958, the parade features decorative tiles, wavy canopies and iron railings
